Director of Catastrophic Loss Analysis, CatIQ
Laura is the Director of Catastrophic Loss Analysis at Catastrophe Indices and Quantification Inc. (CatIQ). Laura forecasts weather-related disasters across Canada, reports on natural and man-made catastrophes using GIS and meteorological tools, and analyzes insurance loss data. Laura also helps organize the annual CatIQ Canadian Catastrophe Conference (C4).
Before joining CatIQ, Laura worked as an operational meteorologist at Amec Foster Wheeler, where she forecast Canadian weather. Laura attained a Bachelor of Science from Central Michigan University, with a focus in meteorology and mathematics, while on both athletic and academic scholarships. Laura then went on to complete her Master of Science degree from McGill University in atmospheric and oceanic sciences, where she researched extreme precipitation events.
Laura has always found the power of the weather fascinating, and she is now looking forward to hosting her first C4 conference, the third annual event, that encourages sectors to work together to mitigate the impacts of catastrophes for the greater good of all Canadians.
