Steve Bowen
Chief Science Officer at Gallagher Re
Steve has nearly two decades of insurance industry experience and is currently Chief Science Officer at Gallagher Re. He initially turned his love of weather and science into an academic background in meteorology by starting his professional career in television before shifting to the insurance world.
The advancing nature of science, the integration of new research into the private sector, and the emergence of challenges from non-physical risk brings continuous evolution to his role. Key themes of his work include developing strategies to help clients make more informed decisions on topics such as natural catastrophe risk, climate change, sustainability (ESG), exposure management, socioeconomics, and quantifying / qualifying individual sector-level risks. He implements data analytics and advisory to help clearly communicate risk, trends, and broader market challenges facing the insurance industry and beyond. He regularly collaborates with representatives across insurance, government, academia, media, and various other financial sectors.
Steve earned his Master of Science in Business Analytics degree from the University of Notre Dame, and his Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Florida State University.
