Andrea Minano Goldring
Policy Advisor at Public Safety Canada | Climate Risk and Resilience
Andrea is a Policy Advisor at Public Safety Canada where she focuses her work on establishing a flood insurance program in Canada. For more than a decade, Andrea has worked on matters related to disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation. Her work to date has included evaluations of publicly available flood maps in Canada, geospatial technologies for assisting municipalities in climate adaptation, and public-private data sharing for improving the availability and affordability of flood insurance.
Andrea has a PhD, MSc and BES from the University of Waterloo. Her education is highly interdisciplinary ranging from geospatial analytics, computer science, climate risk management and public policy and governance. Andrea previously worked as the Research Manager of the Climate Risk Research Group based at the University of Waterloo. With this team, she published research in 2019 that influenced national discourse on the public availability and quality of flood mapping data. In the past, she also worked as a geospatial data specialist for both the public and private sectors. She continues to bolster her knowledge in emerging technologies related to artificial intelligence and machine learning.
