Šárka Cerná
Product and Business Development,
Aon Benfield Impact Forecasting

Šárka works in the Business development team within Impact Forecasting which she joined in November 2015. Her main responsibility is product development and management, working with clients mainly in CEE and Canada to provide underwriting and portfolio management solutions based on Impact Forecasting catastrophe models.

In her business development role she greatly benefits from her 5 years experience of working as catastrophe model developer within Impact Forecasting, where she focused on the mathematical and statistical aspects of the models applied mainly in stochastic flood models development (hydrological data processing, frequency analysis and dependency assessment and modelling applied in stochastic event set simulation).

She is also involved in the development of computational aspects of the ELEMENTS platform and in the definition of catastrophe model testing and validation procedures in frame of Solvency II.

In 2014 Šárka was appointed Chair of the Aon Benfield Research, being responsible for the management of Aon Benfield’s academic relations.

Šárka joined Aon Benfield Impact Forecasting in Prague in September 2010 and since then has gained a lot of experience in the catastrophe modelling world continuously improving her skills of R programming, GIS and SQL. She was involved in development of Impact Forecasting flood models for Switzerland, Thailand, Czech Republic, Canada, Poland and Slovakia.

Prior to joining Aon, she was working at the Institute of Thermomechanics of the Czech Academy of Sciences on statistical ultrasonic signal processing with application in non-destructive testing and evaluation.

Šárka earned a MSc. degree in Mathematical Modelling in February 2011 from the Czech Technical University, Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering in Prague, Czech Republic.

During her studies, Šárka spent one academic year (2008 - 2009) in France on Erasmus internship at the École Nationale d’Ingénieurs du Val de Loire in Blois.

Šárka lives with her husband in Prague. Her main hobby is sport, namely cycling and mountain biking in summer, cross-country skiing in winter. Besides that she is a Bikram yoga addict.
